Steven Schimpke

Steve Schimpke is the Head Varsity Lacrosse Coach at Mercy High School, where he has served for the past four years. With over 10 years of coaching experience, Coach Schimpke brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to the program. A graduate of Cranbrook High School, he went on to earn his Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Michigan State University and his Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Michigan, which have provided him with a solid foundation for both coaching and leadership within the Mercy athletic department.

Coach Schimpke's career includes a variety of coaching roles, including Assistant Middle School Boys Lacrosse Coach, Head Boys Middle School Lacrosse Coach, and Assistant Varsity Lacrosse Coach, before becoming the Varsity Head Coach at Mercy. His commitment to professional growth is evident in his participation in the University of Michigan Women’s Coaches Clinic, where he continually refines his coaching skills and deepens his understanding of the game.

In his four years as the Varsity Head Coach, Steve has compiled an impressive 34-17 record. Under his leadership, the team has won Catholic League Championships in 2022 and 2024, and Regional Championships in 2022 and 2024. The team was also Regional Runner-Up in 2023. Coach Schimpke’s athletes have seen significant individual success, with 13 All-State awards, 20 Academic All-State awards, and 1 All-American award since 2022. His focus on developing well-rounded athletes and fostering a competitive team spirit has been integral to the program's continued success.
