POSITION DESCRIPTION
Varsity Tennis Head Coach
Mercy High School is seeking a dynamic and experienced Varsity Tennis Head Coach to lead and inspire our
student-athletes. The Head Coach will be responsible for developing and maintaining a competitive, values-
driven tennis program that fosters athletic excellence, sportsmanship, and personal growth. The selected
applicant will:
- Be a visible presence around the Mercy Athletic Community
- Plan, organize, and conduct all practices, matches, and training sessions for the Tennis program.
- Develop a season plan that balances skill development, fitness, match preparation, and team culture.
- Provide individualized coaching to help athletes maximize performance and growth.
- Foster a positive team culture based on sportsmanship, respect, accountability, and school pride.
- Manage team logistics, including scheduling matches, coordinating transportation, and ensuring compliance with school and league rules.
- Maintain communication with student-athletes, parents, athletic administration, and opposing teams.
- Support athletes in academic and personal development, ensuring a balance between athletics and school responsibilities.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
- Demonstrated high-level tennis experience (competitive playing or coaching at high school, collegiate, or professional level).
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proven ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes.
- Knowledge of current tennis techniques, rules, and best coaching practices.
- Commitment to the mission and values of Mercy High School.
- Teaching/coaching certification preferred, but not required.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Season: Spring sports season (approx. March–June) with potential off-season conditioning and training sessions.
- Compensation: Commensurate with experience and in alignment with school policy.
