Loretta Vogel is a highly accomplished volleyball coach who has been leading Mercy High School to new heights since 2009. With a BS in Education from Adrian College and a Master’s in Education from Wayne State University, Coach Vogel brings a solid educational background to her coaching philosophy, focusing on both athletic and personal growth for her athletes.
Since joining Mercy Volleyball in 2009, Coach Vogel has consistently elevated the program, transforming it into one of the top volleyball teams in Michigan. Her coaching experience also includes roles at L’Anse Creuse High School, Fraser High School, Wayne State University, and Macomb Community College, where she built a reputation for excellence at every level.
Under her leadership at Mercy, Coach Vogel has led the team to MHSAA State Championships in 2019 and 2023, and MHSAA Runner-Up finishes in 1979 and 2019. She has guided the team to 10 MHSAA Final Fours, solidifying her ability to lead competitive teams to the highest levels. In 2020, she was honored as the AVCA National Coach of the Year for her outstanding contributions to the sport.
Coach Vogel’s athletes have flourished under her guidance, earning 13 Gatorade State Player of the Year awards, including Jess Mruzik (2019), Campbell Flynn (2023), and Maddy Doyle (2010), with both Mruzik and Flynn receiving National Player of the Year honors. She has also coached four MIVCA Miss Volleyball winners: Maddy Doyle (2010), Jess Mruzik (2019), Julia Bishop (2020), and Campbell Flynn (2023). Her exceptional impact on Michigan volleyball has earned her induction into both the MIVCA Hall of Fame and the Catholic High School League Hall of Fame.
Coach Vogel’s unwavering commitment to excellence, her ability to take Mercy Volleyball to new heights, and her dedication to fostering individual growth and success have made her one of the most respected figures in high school volleyball.
