Mercy Soccer claimed the MHSAA District Championship with a 3–0 win over CHSL rival Birmingham Marian, earning their first district title since 2022.
The Marlins struck early, scoring just 6:21 into the first half when Ruby Tobar received a pass from Addison Cervenan, slipped past defenders, and fired a shot from just inside the 18-yard box.
Mercy doubled their lead at the 21:52 mark. A corner kick from Bree Mikha glanced off Elizabeth Stachelek and found Brynn Reichert, who cleaned up the ball and sent it past the Marian goalkeeper to make it 2–0.
In the second half, Leah Greaves sealed the win with a goal assisted by Mikha, her second assist of the night.
Defensively, the Marlins were locked in. Lauren Gawne, Maddie Linton, and goalkeeper Jordan LeVasseur anchored a back line that kept Marian off the scoreboard. LeVasseur made 17 saves, including a crucial stop on a second-half penalty kick. "We knew we had a shot if we stuck to our game plan. Marian is always such a strong team and this year's team is no exception. We have great respect for them. Our players gave it their all and many of the things we have been working on all season came together for us. It was a battle just like we expected, but scoring early gave us a chance to defend well and weather their attempts to get back into the game," said Head Coach Tom James.
Mercy now advances to the MHSAA Regional Semifinal, where they'll face another CHSL opponent, Divine Child, on Wednesday, June 4 at 7:15 p.m. at Divine Child.
