Corey Burras is the Head Coach for the Mercy High School Varsity Softball team, bringing extensive experience and a passion for the game to the program. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Sociology, and Political Science from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. Coach Burras has been coaching softball at Mercy High School for 5 years, including 1 year as the JV coach before taking on the Varsity role. Additionally, he has spent 3 years coaching at the national and regional levels with Finesse Fastpitch Softball, and 8 years with the Northville Baseball and Softball Association.
Under his leadership, the Mercy Varsity Softball team has achieved incredible success, including winning the CHSL Championship every year from 2021 to 2024 and capturing MHSAA District Championships in the same years. The team has also earned MHSAA Regional titles in 2021, 2022, and 2024, and made it to the MHSAA Regional Finals in 2023. Notable team achievements include reaching the MHSAA Quarterfinals in 2022 and advancing to the MHSAA Semi-Finals in 2021 and 2024. Coach Burras has also guided 10 All-State athletes, 17 All-Regional athletes, 18 All-District athletes, and 16 All-Catholic athletes, with 12 of his athletes committing to play college softball. His career coaching record stands at an impressive 130-12.
Throughout his career, Coach Burras has been recognized for his excellence in coaching, earning CHSL Softball Coach of the Year honors in 2022 and 2024, as well as District Coach of the Year for four consecutive years (2021-2024). He was also named Regional Coach of the Year in 2021, 2022, and 2024, and selected as the MHSSCA All-Star Team Coach in 2024. Outside of coaching, Coach Burras is a member of St. Kenneth Parish in Plymouth, MI.
